Shopping for the Holidays

Sometimes the craziness of the holidays can be simply overwhelming.  Keep in mind that the best gift you can give your child is the gift of time… TIME WITH YOU!  Of all the things a child needs and wants, time with a parent is NUMBER ONE!  Plan to give time to yourself and your children.  Everyone will remember the time you spend together doing special things.

Baskin-Robbins Night—

Our Mr. K will be serving ice cream !!

It’s that time again!!  Thanks for your support! This Wednesday, December 19th, from 4pm -9pm; Baskin Robbins will donate back 20% of all proceeds to benefit El Verano School.  Come down and choose one of your favorite flavors, or pre-order that special Holiday treat.  Please mention El Verano School when making your order… See you there!!

If you move to a new address…

Please notify us immediately so that we can update our records. While our district policy is to have students attend school in their attendance area, your child may stay at our school through the end of the current school year if you can provide transportation to and from your home for your child. They will not be eligible to use district transportation.

If you move and you would like your child to continue to attend our school in the next school year, you will need to complete an Intradistrict Transfer Request. There is no guarantee, however, that the request will be granted as new students may enroll who are moving into our school attendance area. Please note that top priority among the transfer requests is given to students who previously attended the school which they are requesting. Transfer requests will be available in the next few months.  Please check this newsletter for additional information!

Support your child’s classroom programs!

We certainly hope that you have signed up your ATM card with E-Scrip!  Every purchase you make with a registered card at participating merchants sends money our way.  Safeway, Sonoma Market, American Airlines, PetSmart, Olive Garden and hundreds of other stores donate a portion or your sale to the school of your choice.  We want you to sign up for E-Scrip! You can register on line at www.escrip.com.  Our school’s ID number is 140618981 or you can call the school office and we’d be happy to send you home a form to complete.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Gift Buying…

Before you go shopping to acquire presents for your child think about what can really foster your child’s creativity, intelligence and caring attitude.  What gifts will support this?  It can certainly be challenging with so much out there!  Below is a list of inexpensive gifts (under $5) that can which may be of interest to children:

  • Playing cards
  • A small set of magnets
  • Tracing paper
  • Books
  • A Calculator
  • Flashcards (I personally love this gift!!)
  • Graph paper
  • “How to Draw” books
  • A Placemat that teaches (math facts, ABCs, USA or World Map)
  • Kids’ Cookbooks
  • Pocket Measuring Tape
  • A Journal or Diary (keep on Writing!)

Nutrition

We have been experiencing a number of students coming into the office in the mornings with stomach aches. The nurse has noticed that many of the students have not had breakfast. Having breakfast in the morning before school will help your child succeed and help eliminate some of the stomach issues. We offer breakfast every morning in the cafeteria! Help your child start the day out right with a good breakfast! Along with a good breakfast a healthy lunch is equally important. Please do not send candy or soda to school for your child. We do not allow sugary foods on campus.

Attendance Adds up

While we would never advise that a family send a sick child to school, it is important to remember that for our school program to have the maximum impact on student learning, students need to be here at school and on time everyday, barring an illness.  Also we are concerned when your child is not here; please inform us early in the morning of any absences by calling the school office at 935-6050.  It is a sign of respect to arrive on time, as well.
