Information for Parents

Dear El Verano Families,

Everyone knows that it takes special training and knowledge to become a successful classroom teacher. Being a teacher means knowing how to make the classroom an exciting place to learn new skills and explore new ideas. But here's something that is well known; even with all the expertise in the world, it's impossible for a teacher to be the best that he or she can be for any particular child without the help and support of that child's Parents or Guardians.

You know better than anyone what makes your child click as a learner and what makes him or her unique. That's why the parent-teacher conference is so important. You bring to the meeting information that can have a powerful influence on your child's school achievement.

Over the years, you've watched and helped your child through many learning experiences: learning to walk, to talk, to dress, to ride a bike, to play a new game, to make friends, to do a million different things. This is a set of experiences that no one else has and gives you unequaled insight into how your child learns in the real world. You are the expert on what motivates and frustrates your child. You know what sparks your child's curiosity and creativity and what makes him or her angry, excited or bored.

These characteristics, along with your child's special interests (hobbies and favorite books, authors, games, friends, etc.), are invaluable pieces of information that your child's teacher can use to design classroom lessons and experiences that will have special appeal and meaning to your child. Having this information ready to share, along with a list of any questions about programs and policies that you might have, will guarantee that your time at the conference is well spent.
Two more quick tips: If something is unclear, don't hesitate to say, 'I don't understand.' And take notes. This will give you a record of the important points to bring home.

Sincerely,
Maite Iturri, Principal
