View our recent state accountability test scores
In accordance with the California Public Schools Accountability Act, the California Department of Education has implemented standardized tests to ensure compliance with curriculum guidelines and measure academic progress in California public schools.
California Progress Reporting (APR) takes into account a school’s state Academic Performance Index (API) in addition to federal measures of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and Program Involvement (PI). Together, these reports help ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) measures achievement on the California Achievement test, given each year to students in grades 2-11. These tests assess whether a school is meeting state educational goals and measures progress from year to year.
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is a statewide accountability system mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 which requires each state to ensure that all schools and districts make Adequate Yearly Progress

One measure, the Federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), measures the percentage of students who are considered Proficient or Advanced in Language Arts and Math. The other measure is the State Academic Performance Index (API) which measures how well students are progressing in Language Arts and Math. The API is what we call a growth model as it looks at whether students are making progress (towards being proficient) from year to year.
The goal is for all subgroups to reach an API score of 800. Additionally, both measures break down our student populations into subgroups, labeling them as White, Hispanic, English Language Learner, These labels are given to us as a way to look at how well each subgroup is succeeding. The results for this year's AYP and API show that we have made substantial growth in every single one of our subgroups and that we are on the right track! This is simply phenomenal and truly, we couldn't do it without the support of our community members.
Time and time again, local community members have demonstrated support for El Verano School in a variety of ways and we are pleased to show you how well our students are progressing. It is through dedicated efforts by students, staff, parents and community members, that we are continuing to move our students towards proficiency in math and language arts we thank you whole-heartedly!
Once again, thank you for your continued support. If you are interested in getting involved in tutoring, mentoring, volunteering in classrooms or simply wanting to visit, please call the school office at 935-6050. We are moving through a successful 2006-2007 school year and as always we welcome each and every one of you to be a part of our school community.
YOU are making a difference!
Sincerely,
Maite Iturri
